Ben Nevis in winter conditions

Today i was up Ben Nevis via the mountain path which has changed a lot over the week.

Last Saturday the snow from half way was soft with quite a few rocks to aid progress. After a week of slightly warmer temperatures and cold winds, the snow had reduced slightly but what is now left is rock hard and consolidated.

From about 950m up we put crampons on when the snow was more consistent and needed them all the way to the summit on the hard snow and ice.

We made the summit in good time but it was a struggle against the very cold easterly wind, not a day for taking gloves off. We were rewarded with some good views to Glencoe, Isle of Rum and Aonach Mor as well as Ledge route and Tower ridge on the north face of Ben Nevis.
