About Us

Based in Fort William, The Highland Mountain Company delivers bespoke instruction, coaching and guiding in the Scottish Highlands for individuals, groups and families.

Our aims:

  • To deliver a professional and complete service that gives you confidence and reassurance in our ability both on and off the hill.

  • To provide more than just a guide who gets you safely from A to B, for us that is the absolute minimum requirement.

Our goals:

  • To give you an enjoyable but memorable experience which is both safe and exciting.

  • With your guidance we tailor our service to fulfil your specific requirements and desires, ranging from a short exciting abseil to a multi-day walking trip.

  • We strive to share our knowledge and understanding of the outdoor environment so that your future excursions benefit from our experience.

Our instructors:

  • Are highly experienced and technically qualified in the mountain environment, with years of additional experience coaching people through challenging situations on personal development courses in the outdoors.

  • They are always keen to impart their knowledge, whether it's about the flora and fauna, geography, geology, the ever changing landscape or the best place to eat and drink, camp or where to have your next hill day.

At busy times of the year we use associate instructors, local to Fort William who work and play in the Highlands around Scotland.

The company was started and is run by David who is also the primary instructor.

Growing up in Kent and gaining a BSc Hons degree in Geography from the Uni of Portsmouth, the decision was quickly made to head from the flat lands of the south to the mountains of Scotland.

David has over 15 years experience in the Scottish Highlands, both leading people and on personal trips, in summer and winter, walking, climbing and camping.  Over the years he has also had several Alpine trips gaining several 4000m summits and 2 trips to the Himalayas up to an altitude of 6000m.

David holds the Summer Mountain Leader Award,
