Guided walks up Lochaber Munros

In total 52 Munros are in the Lochaber area with the vast majority of these being easily accessible by road or train and completed in day excursions. The remainder are remote and require longer trips that make them even more special.

  • Ascent: up to 1345m

  • Terrain: rough moorland, mountain path.

  • Duration: 1 Day to 3 day sections

Pre-requisites 

Some experience of mountain walking on rough ground.  A good level of general fitness is needed.

What we offer

All our guides are local to the area and have many years’ experience in the mountains, helping people navigate through the munros around Fort William.

Our guides know the best routes and are very knowledgeable about the mountain environment, so the day can be easily split up with interesting chats, wildlife and great views along the way.

We only organise private groups for walks up the munros around Fort William.

The prices quoted are for one guide per group or individual, so our walks will always go ahead.

Summary

Centred around the town of Fort William, Lochaber stretches east towards the Ben Alder area, north to Glen Shiel, west to the coast of Arisaig and onto Rum and Eigg and south to the Isle of Mull and Glen Coe.

The different mountain ranges mentioned below all have a very different feel from each other. From the easily accessible Mamores and Glen Coe peaks to the very remote Knoydart hills.  Whether you are well on your way to completing the Munros, just starting your 1st round or want go get up some classic Scottish mountains, the area around Fort William is a great base.

What can be done in a day?

Some very good combinations of munros can be ticked off in single day walks.  These include:

  • The Grey Corries, 4 munros

  • The 2 Aonachs

  • Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg

  • The Ring of Steall in the Mamores, 4 munros

  • The Corryhully Horseshoe, Glen Finnan, 2 munros

 

Want more than 1 day of walking?

Good multi-day trips returning back to your accommodation each night include:

  • 3 days walking the southern Glen Coe munros

  • 3 days walking the Mamore munros

  • 2 days walking the Glen Finnan and Loch Eil munros

  • 2 days walking Ben Nevis, Carn Mor Dearg and the Aonachs

Fancy a camping trip or night in a Bothy?

 

4 days walking the remote Knoydart munros. 

  • Starting the walk at Kinloch Hourn we will walk in via the low coastal path to Barisdale, our base for the 2 nights. 

  • Day 2 ascend Ladhar Bheinn,

  • Day 3 ascend Luinne Bheinn and Meal Buidhe.

  • Day 4 walk back to Kinloch Hourn and back to Fort William by mid-afternoon.
