    Aonach Eagach, Glen Coe

The Aonach Eagach in Glen Coe was the ridge of choice today with fellow guide Andy. There was a strong wind in the glen which eased as we got to the top and started the scramble. It was a busy ridge with lots of people enjoying the good weather and views. The guys did well getting over the difficulties in a few hours and onto the 2nd munro of the day. #glencoe

North buttress and Curved Ridge, Glen Coe

Today i was on North buttress of Buachaille Etive Mor, a direct line straight up the mountain finishing right on the summit. We did the climb in 3 long pitches looking at good belays and efficient  ways to have less knots when equalising the anchors. From the top of the pitched section the guys moved together to the summit. There was still time in the day and the guys were keen so we descended Curved ridge, another classic of the mountain. We moved together as a 3 on

Zig zags and Broad gully, Glen Coe

Today i was in Glen Coe ascending the Zig Zags and with a descent of Broad gully (with is still a gully, but not very broad). We looked at more mountaineering rope work and placing gear whilst moving together before getting to the top of of the Zig Zags. Once on the top of Gearr Aonach we made our way to the top of Stob Corie nan Lochan which had a good level for frost over the rocks and frozen scree, crampons were useful. A descent of Broad gully was our option down,

    Curved Ridge, Glen Coe

Curved Ridge in Glen Coe was sheltered today from the south westerly winds and remained dry until the afternoon. We focused upon short pitches today, building efficient belays, stance management and how to spot good anchors. We then moved up the ridge in good time before being exposed to the wind and rain from the summit. Needless to say there is no snow up or down the mountain at the moment. #glencoe #curvedridge #mountaineering

    Broad gully, Glen Coe

Today we were in Broad gully on Stob Corie nan Lochan. It is the biggest patch of snow in Glen Coe at the moment but still pitifully small. We made the most of what we had to build on the skills seen and introduced yesterday; snow anchors, buried axe, bucket seat, clove hitch, body belaying and good footwork. We didn’t stick around long in the damp conditions and slushy snow.  Summer mountaineering tomorrow is plan A. what we had #glencoe #winter

    Lost Valley, Glen Coe

A glorious autumn day in the Lost valley in Glen Coe today with Emily. Glen Coe was looking good with its yellow, gold and bronze shades of vegetation on show. We made steady progress up into the Lost Valley with a tricky river crossing that was a little high, but manageable. #glencoe #lostvalley #fortwilliam

    Curved Ridge, Glen Coe

Today i was on Curved Ridge, Glen Coe with father and son team, Gregor and Ron. With aleady a good level of climbing experience between them they were keen to learn mountaineering rope work, which suited the wet and windy day. The guys led themselves up the route and along the way we looked at the transition between moving the rope up the route to short pitches, efficient belays and identifying safe and quick anchors. #glencoe #Curvedridge #Mountaineering

Lost valley, Glen Coe and Steall falls, Glen Nevis

Even though Storm Ali was blowing the Highlands offers spectacular walks at low level. 1st myself and Tanya made our way up into the Lost Valley in Glen Coe. With the gorge and every other river raging it was pretty full on. We couldn’t cross the river half way up but Tanya was keen for an adventure so we picked our way through the boulders and trees on the west side. Still with some energy to spare we went to see how big the 2nd highest waterfall in the UK was, Steall

    Lost Valley, Glen Coe

Today i was in the Lost valley in Glen Coe, showing off the best that the area has to offer and the variable weather that we are having. The Lost Valley is a good example of the temperate rainforest that still holds on around the west coast of Scotland. With the steep sided gorge and birch trees holding the moisture this increases the humidity levels. Today the river was high which added to the drama and a little extra challenge to get across. #glencoe #Lostvalley

Aonach Eagach, Glen Coe, part Deux

I was on the Aonach Eagach in Glen Coe again today with Steve, Martin and Andy for their joint 40th birthday present. The ridge was slippery today in the mist which stayed with us all day. The guys did well along the tricky sections and were glad on some that there were no views! #aonacheagach #Glencoe #Munro

    Aonach Eagach, Glen Coe

After a damp start the Aonach Eagach in Glen Coe brightened up well in the afternoon for Mo and her friends. We made steady progress over the difficulties and comfort Zones were pushed. But a very rewarding day. #aonacheagach #Glencoe #Mountaineering

    Curved Ridge, Glen Coe

Today i was on Curved Ridge in Glen Coe with James and Sarah. With a wet forecast but little wind it was warm walking up and on the ridge. We made good progress up the classic ridge and the wet rock didn’t hinder their progress or spirits. #curvedridge #Glencoe

    Lost Valley, Glen Coe

A walk into the Lost Valley in Glen Coe was the perfect choice for Rose and Carrie, showing them the best of the western munros of the Scottish Highlands. The river out of the valley was pretty small but it still added to the atmosphere of the temperate rainforest in the gorge. We finished the walk in the best way with a pint in the Clachaig. #glencoe #Lostvalley #Walk #Munro

    Ledge Route, Ben Nevis

Ledge Route on Ben Nevis was a very wet outing today with Finin and her family and friends on day 2 of their Scottish adventure. With a quick walk into the CIC hut it was a good test of everyones waterproofs. The team did well on a blustery ridge but still with good views with the high cloud cover. Meanwhile Andrew was with Gareth in Glen Coe on Buachaille Etive Beag ticking off another 2 munros. #ledgeroute #Bennevis #Glencoe

    Glen Coe 3 ways.

A busy day in Glen Coe today for The Highland Mountain Company. I was along the Aonach Eagach on a showery and windy ridge. Dave A and Casper were with Finin and her family and friends on their 1st day of 3 in Scotland walking up Stob Corie nan Lochan and reported better weather and views on the classic peak. Elsewhere, Andrew was out with Gareth on the 2 munros of Buachaille Etive Mor. Aonach Eagach Buachaille Etive Mor Stob corie nan Lochan #glencoe #Munros #Aonacheag

Today i was on Buachaille Etive Beag in Glen Coe with Sinead. Goal of the day was to get good views and good walking in Glen Coe, which we certainly couldn’t go wrong with in Glen Coe with the sun, May is definitely the best month of the summer.  The photos speak for themselves. #glencoe #Walking #Munro

    Curved Ridge, Glen Coe

Very good weather today on Curved Ridge in Glen Coe. The ridge itself was free from snow but we did get a few snow showers on the way up. The guys made good progress and we were quickly up at the snow line at the top of Curved Ridge. Once the fresh snow that we had over the last few days melts the exit gully will mostly be snow free, but there is still a lot around the summit and in the descent corrie, an axe was useful to have. Glen Coe, Winter walking

Today i was in Glen Coe ascending Stob Corie nan Lochan via the east ridge and descended via Broad Gully, for Lochaber Guides. The snow level was at about 700m and still has a consistent covering to the summit.  There are bare patches on all the buttresses and south facing aspects on the ridges.  Even though all the snow is slushy having crampons on the mixed ridge up and down Broad gully definatly helped. Winter skills, Glen Coe

Today i was in Glen Coe with Abigail and Michael brushing up and introducing winter skills. There is some very hard going snow around at the moment with very saturated soft snow on top of a hard wet base.  This made for slow going up towards Stob corie Altruim, picking our way through the mixed terrain. Once higher we looked at crampons, ice axe arest and ascending and descending steeper snow slopes. Thawing all the way up with a very saturated snow pack, maybe this is spring

    SC gully, Glen Coe

Today i went up SC gully for Abscus Mountain Guides with Ben and Danny. The sun was out again and it was warm throughout the day.  The buttresses were black with the snow mostly gone but the gullies are all still well banked out. SC gully was at good grade 3 standard with the crux central ice fall well covered and good steep snow before and after, with a stable cornice. Pitch 1 Above the crux #glencoe #Winterclimbing
